135: Countdown to Parkstinction – Disney-MGM Studios 1994

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is turning 28 years old this week! While the park might not be its best self right now, the future is bright. And so is the past . . .

In honor of the park’s anniversary, special guest Jeff DePaoli joins us this week as we go back in time and take a virtual tour of Disney-MGM Studios as it existed in 1994, just months after Sunset Boulevard debuted to the public. We look back fondly on extinct attractions like the Backstage Studio Tour and the Magic of Disney Animation, and we discover what the park was like before Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and Star Wars made their grand entrances.

Plus, Jeff gives us the scoop on Aulani, Disney’s Hawaiian resort and spa, and shares all about the unforgettable trip he took there. Then, in the segment “Did That Just Happen?” we each share odd, funny stories from the parks.

Be sure to check out Jeff’s podcast Dizney Coast to Coast (iTunes: DCTC) and follow him on Twitter (@JeffDePaoli)!

In the segment “Munchies and Merch,” we chat about the food and merchandise items we have our eyes on. 116: The Best and Worst WDW Trends of 2016

As another year comes to an end, we take a look back at seven of Walt Disney World’s biggest trends over the last 12 months. As we focus on topics like hard-ticket events, unique dining, and the Muppets, we give our take on which of these trends have outstayed their welcome and which ones we’d love to see continue into the new year.

In another Mad Chatter game, Matt and Jeremy try to guess the animated film based on a quote pulled from Roger Ebert’s review. Plus, we sit down with choral director Mitch to talk about Candlelight Processional and what it’s like taking a high school choir to Orlando to participate. It wouldn’t be The Mad Chatters Podcast if we didn’t talk about food, and our latest episode is no exception! This week we kick off a new series devoted to the table service restaurants throughout Walt Disney World. First up: Magic Kingdom. From hot tickets like Cinderella’s Royal Table to less sought-after eateries such as The Plaza Restaurant, we highlight the park’s eight table service options, discuss every menu, and provide our own reviews.

Also on this week’s show we’re joined by guest Guy Selga (@guyselga), blogger and researcher for touringplans.com, who takes us inside last weekend’s Destination D event at Walt Disney World. We hear about Guy’s favorite panels and get the scoop on the biggest news that was announced over the long weekend.

Speaking of news, we break down all of the latest announcements from The Walt Disney Company, including a new Cars 3 teaser, huge changes for Hong Kong Disneyland, a brand new festival coming to Epcot, and much more! It all goes down on the latest episode. Tune in now!
