208: Live-Action Films, Documentaries, and the Disney Parks

Did you know Disney released 16 live-action films between One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961) and The Sword in the Stone (1963)? You’ve probably never met anyone whose favorite Disney film is Greyfriars Bobby, but the fact is these films hold a special place in many people’s hearts, and they make up a huge portion of the Disney film catalog.

On this week’s show, Jeff DePaoli of Dizney Coast to Coast joins us for a deep dive into Disney’s live-action films, from 1950’s Treasure Island to the upcoming live-action remake of Dumbo. We discuss the history of Walt’s interest in live action, our favorite films from this category, where these films show up in Walt Disney World, and much more! Plus, Jeremy walks us through ten Disney documentaries he especially recommends Disney fans watch.

In another round of Take 5, we use just five words to respond to categories such as “The Current Condition of WDW Monorails” and “Song Titles in Frozen 2.” Plus, we discuss the big news that was announced at this year’s Destination D. Come join the discussion now!

Be sure to check out Jeff’s podcast and let him know you enjoyed hearing him on our show: Dizney Coast to Coast.

On our latest episode, Stephen Lim (@thedailydisney on Instagram) joins us for another Mad Q Party, our favorite hypothetical extravaganza in which we ask and answer ten off-the-wall questions related to The Walt Disney Company. This week’s edition has us brainstorming ideas for new quick service restaurants, choosing a celebrity to join us for a day in Walt Disney World, overlaying an attraction with a live-action Disney movie, and much more!

In Munch Madness news, we reveal which two restaurants our listeners picked to face off in the championship. (Be sure to place your final vote over on our Munch Madness page!) Plus, in a brand new segment we assign classic film taglines to Disney movies. Come join the fun now on the newest episode of The Mad Chatters Podcast!

In this week’s lineup of recurring segments, we do some Disney debating, share our ideas for the hashtag #SadDisneyAttractions, and try to stump one another in the 20 Questions-style game “Where in WDW Am I?” Come join the fun now!

55: Walt Disney World Vs. Disneyland: Ranking the Disney Parks Using Our Completely Subjective and Meaningless Point System

Which is better: Disneyland or Walt Disney World?

Because we hear that question all the time, we thought we’d pit the two resorts against each other on this week’s show. Comparing everything from attractions, to hotels, to weather, to elbow room, we award points to both parks depending on how they stack up in various categories. While at the end of the day we couldn’t possibly choose a park to call our “favorite,” we always enjoy talking about the pros and cons of both Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

Also on this week’s show, we discuss the recently announced Club Disney, a new Mary Poppins film, Disney comic books, attraction posters, and more!

We chat about those projects, as well as some new announcements for Disneyland’s 60th anniversary. 28: Live-Action Disney Films: Passing Trend or Winning Model?

With Cinderella in theaters and films like The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, and Mulan on the docket, live-action remakes seem to be Disney’s latest obsession. Is it working? Is it necessary? This week we discuss the live-action remakes, both past and future, and what we think about them. We even do a bit of armchair casting and talk about who we’d like to see in the upcoming Winnie the Pooh movie.

To kick off the episode, we review Be Our Guest Restaurant and talk about a few hidden gems at the parks.
