197: A Star Is Born – 11 Times Alan Menken Made Disney Magic

Back in 1989, composer Alan Menken made his Disney debut with the majestic score and the memorable songs featured in The Little Mermaid. The film not only launched the famous Disney Renaissance of the 1990s, but it also marked the start of a beautiful partnership between Disney and Menken, who ended up creating music for classics such as Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Hercules, and more.

On this week’s show we take a closer look at 11 Disney projects for which Menken provided the music, and we share our picks for the most essential Menken tunes.

Also on this week’s episode, we highlight the good, bad, and ugly interiors of quick service restaurants at Walt Disney World. Check it out on show 197!

189: Fun Facts and Easter Eggs at Walt Disney World

“Did you know?” Those three words, when overheard at Walt Disney World, always pull us in. We either want to learn something new, or we want to be able to debunk whatever kind of nonsense we’re about to hear. While many Disney fans have heard just about every “fun fact” there is to know about the Vacation Kingdom of the World, some facts and hidden Easter eggs really are “fun,” especially when you discover them for the first time. In the segment “Behind the Magic,” we put the spotlight on the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island. Plus, Derek reviews his dinner at Maria & Enzo’s Ristorante in Disney Springs, we discuss some tough losses for WDW fans, and much more. Tune in!

Dole Whips, Fantasmic, Splash Mountain, Chef Mickey’s… Some experiences at Walt Disney World appear on about every “Must List” you’ll come across online. But that doesn’t mean they are the only things worth experiencing on a Disney vacation. This week we list some of our favorite attractions, restaurants, and other experiences that don’t quite get the attention we think they deserve. From the trails in Disney’s Animal Kingdom to hilarious performers outside the parks, we break down the most underrated experiences at Walt Disney World.

129: Pirates of the Caribbean – Celebrating 50 Years

On March 18, 1967, Pirates of the Caribbean opened in Disneyland and instantly changed the game for theme park attractions, forever affecting how all future attractions would be measured. This week we honor the legendary ride’s 50th anniversary by diving deep into its conception by Walt and a team of trusted Imagineers, the attraction’s transformation throughout the years, our favorite scenes and characters, and the legacy the ride has built over the last five decades. Join us for a virtual ride-through and a passionate discussion about what makes Pirates of the Caribbean so iconic and magical, 50 years after its debut.

As our Munch Madness tournament reaches its halfway point, this week we reveal which restaurants made the Edible Eight. Once you’ve listened, be sure to vote for your favorites on our Munch Madness page, and then tune in next week to see which eateries will move on to the Flavorful Four.

Also on this week’s show, we let off steam in a round of 11-Second Rants. Plus, we try to guess where the other Chatters are hiding in the game, “Where in WDW Am I?” There’s plenty of fun (and a bit of treachery) on this week’s show, so listen up, me ‘earties. Yo ho!
