110: Liberty Square and the Hall of Fictional Presidents

As election season kicks into high gear in the U.S., we’re putting the spotlight on the land in Magic Kingdom dedicated to all things America: Liberty Square. This week we go “Behind the Magic” to highlight attractions like the Liberty Square Riverboat, eateries such as Columbia Harbour House, and the details and hidden gems that make this land worth visiting. Then, we put on our Imagineer hats and imagine what the Hall of Presidents might look like if it featured the best fictional presidents from pop culture.

Also on this week’s show, we discuss Magic Kingdom’s newest nighttime spectacular, hear about each other’s latest Disney Fix, and play a round of “Where in WDW Am I?” Episode 110 is online now!

108: Hotels 101

What makes a deluxe resort deluxe? How do I possibly choose the right hotel for my family when there are so many options? What does beehive hair have to do with Walt Disney World? These are some of the questions we (attempt to) answer as we chat about all things hotels. We break down the three levels of WDW resort hotels, talk about our personal preferences, and weigh the benefits of staying either on property or off.

In the news this week, we share more details about Hollywood Studios’ brand new nighttime show for the holidays, the return of the Muppet Mobile Lab in Epcot, and more. Plus, we review dinner at Boma in Animal Kingdom Lodge and get into some friendly Disney debates.

107: From Celebrations to Cyclones (And Hocus Pocus Too!)

Walt Disney World had quite a week! Just days after celebrating its 45th anniversary, the resort closed to guests for only the fourth time ever due to Hurricane Matthew. And the Mad Chatters were on the scene for all of it!

To help us report on all of the craziness, we brought in a few special guests. First, our friends David and Katie fill us in on what it was like to be trapped at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel as Hurricane Matthew made its way along the coast. They give us the scoop on how Disney handled the situation as well as share the highs and lows of being in Walt Disney World while the parks were closed.

Then, guest Aaron Wallace (@aaronspod), host of Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Pod and author of the brand new book Hocus Pocus in Focus, joins Derek to break down all of the celebrations and offerings that took place on Magic Kingdom’s 45th birthday. They also report on the new show “The Muppets Present… Great Moments in American History.”

Also on this episode you’ll hear a brief report of Derek’s trip with two first-timers, plus a special Halloween edition of the Mad Chatters Playlist. All that and more awaits on show 107. Tune in now!

105: Countdown to Parkstinction – WDW’s 25th Anniversary Celebration

With Walt Disney World turning 45 years old this weekend, we thought it would be fun to go back in time and take a look at one of Magic Kingdom’s biggest birthday celebrations of the past. As we discuss the park’s 25th anniversary, we take a closer look at the Remember the Magic Parade, Illuminations 25, and the infamous, love-it-or-hate-it Cakestle.

But first, we do a bit of Armchair Imagineering as we create our own ideas for how Walt Disney World and its guests should celebrate 45 years. Plus, we pen Love Letters to Disney. Strap in and hang on tight: this Time Rover is ready for departure!
