199: The Magic of Audio-Animatronics: From the Dancing Man to the Shaman

Audio-animatronics have been a staple of Disney parks for over five decades. But what many guests might not realize is that “Audio-Animatronics” is a registered trademark because Walt Disney and his team of Imagineers were actually responsible for inventing the technology! On this week’s show we trace the history of audio-animatronics, stopping along the way to discuss some of the biggest milestones and our personal favorite audio-animatronics, including Abraham Lincoln, the Tiki Room birds, Hopper, and much more.

Also on this week’s episode, Jeremy and Matt discuss their recent adventures in Walt Disney World and share their thoughts on the World of Disney’s new look, Toy Story Land, and more. Plus, we play another round of Take 5 by sharing our thoughts on various Disney topics using only five words. Tune in now!

181: Flops and Failures – 8 WDW Attractions That Underwhelmed

Not every idea is gold. On this week’s show we look back at eight specific ideas implemented at Walt Disney World that had less-than-stellar results. From attractions guests loathed to audio-animatronics that didn’t quite live up to what Disney promised, we discuss Walt Disney World’s biggest flops and bombs over the last four decades.

In a round of Armchair Imagineering, we present our ideas for what Disney might be planning in the former location of River Country, where some construction seems to be taking place. Plus, we introduce a new Disney hashtag (#DisneyfyAMovie) and discuss the latest price increases for WDW Resort hotel guests. Come join the conversation!

132: 10 Times Disney Made Us Fall in Love With Polynesia

Aloha! Welcome to our tropical hideaway. We invite you to join us as we look back at Disney’s vibrant history with the Polynesian culture. From 1937’s “Hawaiian Holiday” to last year’s “Moana” (and every Dole Whip in between), we span the decades in order to present our list of ten Polynesian inspirations The Walt Disney Company has brought us.

An episode about Polynesia would not be complete without a closer look at one of Walt Disney World’s most popular restaurants: ‘Ohana. In this week’s “Eating Around the World,” we give a full review of our favorite restaurant on property. Plus, we discuss the big security changes at Magic Kingdom, present the Munch Madness champion, and more!

122: What the What? – Ten “What Were They Thinking?” Moments at WDW

Not every idea is a winner – not even at Disney. Unfortunately, some of those bad ideas still made it out of the drawing room and into Walt Disney World. From bad overlays to questionable themes to impractical designs, this week we count down the top ten moments that left us asking, “What were they thinking?!”

But first, we get sentimental as we pen some “Love Letters to Disney.” Plus, Matt and Derek review breakfast and dinner at Captain’s Grille in Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. Come join the fun on another episode of The Mad Chatters Podcast!
