148: Fantasmic! Celebrating 25 Years of Mysteries, Magic, and Visions Fantastic

Dreams are make believe . . . But could they all come true? To discover the answer to that question, we’re going deep inside Mickey’s imagination, where we’ll encounter princesses, a fire-breathing dragon, and all the forces of evil, all while searching for the true reason Fantasmic has been such a popular show since it debuted in Disneyland 25 years ago. Celebrate this epic nighttime spectacular with us as we dive deep into the show’s history, its changes over the years, and what the future might hold.

Also on this week’s show, we look more closely at some of D23 Expo’s biggest announcements and toss in our own ideas for how to plus them. Plus, in another round of the Mad Chatter Top Ten, we present the Top Ten Uses for the Great Movie Ride Audio-Animatronics After the Ride Has Closed.

We now invite you to join Mickey and experience Fantasmic!—a journey beyond your wildest imagination.

98: Opening Day Attractions – How Untouchable?

Now that Maelstrom has been gone for over a year, Tower of Terror is down to its final few months at Disney California Adventure, and rumors are swirling that Great Movie Ride will be no more by 2018, the question becomes: Is anything safe?

On this week’s show, we list the 16 opening day attractions that are still part of Magic Kingdom, and we rank them on a scale of 1-5 based on how crucial they are to Walt Disney World at large. Which ones are expendable, and which ones, if removed, would completely change the tone of Magic Kingdom?

In another round of Disney Debates, we argue about topics like princess medleys, undesirable jobs at WDW, and restrooms. Plus, we talk with listener Brian, who had the unique opportunity of treating both of his grandmas to a day at Disneyland. Come join the fun now!

58: Animated Films in the Parks – The 2000s

Our search for signs of Disney films at Walt Disney World gets a bit harder this week as we venture into the 2000s. On this week’s show, we chat about films like Atlantis, Chicken Little, and The Emperor’s New Groove, discussing why they’ve been all but forgotten by Disney executives and fans alike. We also speculate about why movies like Lilo & Stitch and The Princess and the Frog have had such lasting power.

In “You Be the Judge,” we go head to head in a few friendly debates regarding topics such as nighttime spectaculars, disposable opening-day attractions, and shoddy audio-animatronics. Plus, we play a few rounds of “Take 5,” in which we use just five words to express our feelings about gourmet hot dogs, the PeopleMover, and more. Episode 58 of The Mad Chatters Podcast is now available for your listening pleasure!

33: Animated Films in the Parks: The 1960s

Has Disney World done these films justice? Could they stand to have a bigger presence in the parks?

In another “Eating Around the World” segment, we check out the menu and atmosphere of San Angel Inn Restaurante in the Mexico pavilion at Epcot. Plus, in “You Be the Judge” we debate the All-Star resorts, Disney’s Hollywood Studios’ name, and a new Fantasmic! scene. Join the conversation now!
