208: Live-Action Films, Documentaries, and the Disney Parks

Did you know Disney released 16 live-action films between One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961) and The Sword in the Stone (1963)? You’ve probably never met anyone whose favorite Disney film is Greyfriars Bobby, but the fact is these films hold a special place in many people’s hearts, and they make up a huge portion of the Disney film catalog.

On this week’s show, Jeff DePaoli of Dizney Coast to Coast joins us for a deep dive into Disney’s live-action films, from 1950’s Treasure Island to the upcoming live-action remake of Dumbo. We discuss the history of Walt’s interest in live action, our favorite films from this category, where these films show up in Walt Disney World, and much more! Plus, Jeremy walks us through ten Disney documentaries he especially recommends Disney fans watch.

In another round of Take 5, we use just five words to respond to categories such as “The Current Condition of WDW Monorails” and “Song Titles in Frozen 2.” Plus, we discuss the big news that was announced at this year’s Destination D. Come join the discussion now!

Be sure to check out Jeff’s podcast and let him know you enjoyed hearing him on our show: Dizney Coast to Coast.

93: Overlay or Over-nay? – Evaluating Disney’s Shoehorning Strategy

What used to be Maelstrom is now Frozen Ever After. The original show Rivers of Light has been put on hold, and a “Jungle Book” show has debuted in its place. Now, rumors are flying that attractions like Mission: SPACE and Tower of Terror will be given “Guardians of the Galaxy” overlays. Is the age of original attractions over?

On this week’s show, we dive in to the topic of Disney overlays and share our thoughts on this latest trend. Then, with our tongues firmly in our cheeks, we each give five ideas for how to either improve or ruin current Walt Disney World attractions by overlaying them with Disney films and characters.

In the segment “Munchies and Merch,” we discuss the food items and merchandise at the parks that have our attention. Plus, we play “Take 5,” a game in which we use just five words to express our feelings on categories such as the weather in July and what the Maelstrom trolls are up to now. A bit of fun and a whole bunch of silliness await on episode 93 of The Mad Chatters Podcast!
