133: Top 5 Film Tie-Ins at Walt Disney World

Incorporating a film into the Disney parks is an art. It requires a delicate balance in which Imagineers must give the movie justice and the treatment it deserves without making it feel forced or shoehorned into a certain space. On this week’s show, we chat about those times when the Imagineers nailed it. From entire attractions to single, fleeting moments, we count down our top five ways in which a Disney film has been brought to Walt Disney World.

Also on this week’s episode, we have some fun with the hashtag #BadDisneySequels. Plus, Derek hosts a rematch of the game “Before and After,” in which Matt and Jeremy solve brand new clues describing mashups of various Disney films, songs, and attractions. Come play along now!

125: Meeting Characters 101

You can hardly take ten steps in a Disney park without coming across a costumed character (or at least a queue of people waiting to meet one). For some, meeting characters is as much a part of a Walt Disney World vacation as seeing Cinderella Castle for the first time or riding It’s a Small World. So, what’s all the fuss about? And what do you need to know before you dive into the world of character meet and greets?

We’ve got you covered on this week’s episode, as we list the pros and cons of meeting characters, discuss our picks for the best and worst meet and greets in Walt Disney World, and even share a few of our favorite personal experiences meeting characters.

In the news, Disney has announced several opening dates of upcoming experiences. We share our thoughts on coming attractions such as Rivers of Light, Pandora, and the brand new nighttime spectacular “Happily Ever After.” Plus, Matt and Derek review two Disney Springs restaurants (Paddlefish and Boathouse), and in a Mad Chatter game, we test our knowledge of voice actors in Disney animated films. Come play along now!

In another Mad Chatter game, Matt and Jeremy try to guess the animated film based on a quote pulled from Roger Ebert’s review. 58: Animated Films in the Parks – The 2000s

Our search for signs of Disney films at Walt Disney World gets a bit harder this week as we venture into the 2000s. On this week’s show, we chat about films like Atlantis, Chicken Little, and The Emperor’s New Groove, discussing why they’ve been all but forgotten by Disney executives and fans alike. We also speculate about why movies like Lilo & Stitch and The Princess and the Frog have had such lasting power.

In “You Be the Judge,” we go head to head in a few friendly debates regarding topics such as nighttime spectaculars, disposable opening-day attractions, and shoddy audio-animatronics. 39: Animated Films in the Parks: The 1970s

Nowadays it might be easier to spot a disco ball or jumpsuit than it is to find any signs of the Disney films of the 1970s in Walt Disney World. This week we discuss why movies like Robin Hood, The Aristocats, and The Rescuers have such little presence in the parks . . . and why the classic character Winnie the Pooh has stood the test of time.

In our roundup of the latest Disney news, we talk poop-inspired snacks at Animal Kingdom (really!), Frozen Summer Fun at Hollywood Studios, the latest live-action announcement, and more. Plus, in another round of “It’s the Small Things After All” we gush about our favorite hidden gems in Walt Disney World.
