108: Hotels 101

What makes a deluxe resort deluxe? How do I possibly choose the right hotel for my family when there are so many options? What does beehive hair have to do with Walt Disney World? These are some of the questions we (attempt to) answer as we chat about all things hotels. We break down the three levels of WDW resort hotels, talk about our personal preferences, and weigh the benefits of staying either on property or off.

In the news this week, we share more details about Hollywood Studios’ brand new nighttime show for the holidays, the return of the Muppet Mobile Lab in Epcot, and more. Plus, we review dinner at Boma in Animal Kingdom Lodge and get into some friendly Disney debates.

Stage shows, nighttime spectaculars, dark rides, restaurants… All sorts of new experiences have just debuted at Walt Disney World, and on this week’s show we break it all down. Derek and guest Aaron Wallace (@aaronspod | aaronwallaceonline.com) were on the scene to see attractions like Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire, Soarin’ Around the World, and Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular premiere, and they report on what opening day was like and what they thought of these new experiences. Other new offerings such as D-Luxe Burger, Amorette’s Patisserie, and Animal Kingdom after dark also take the spotlight.

In a round of Armchair Imagineering, we present our ideas for summer-long events at Walt Disney World. Plus, Matt and Derek review lunch at Via Napoli in the segment “Eating Around the World.” Come for the reviews, stay for Jeremy’s Christoph Waltz impression. Episode 92 is online now!

69: Quick-Service Restaurants at Magic Kingdom

On The Mad Chatters Podcast, food is always one of our favorite topics. And yet, in our regular segment “Eating Around the World,” we’ve somehow left out the quick-service restaurants of Walt Disney World. This week we remedy that as we take a tour of the quick-service eateries in Magic Kingdom. We read the menus of every counter-service location and share our opinions, tips, and must-dos.

Keeping with the food theme, Matthew reviews Captain’s Grille at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, and in “11-Second Rants,” we spout off our food- and restaurant-related pet peeves at the parks. All that and more awaits you on the latest episode of The Mad Chatters Podcast!

45: Animated Films in the Parks – The 1980s

Although the films of the 1980s are poorly represented in Walt Disney World, this week we discuss what was going on at Walt Disney Animation Studios during this tumultuous decade and how these movies fared at the theater. Join us as we talk about the darker films of the 80s, such as The Fox and the Hound, The Black Cauldron, and The Great Mouse Detective, as well as the film that got Disney back on track: The Little Mermaid.

Also on show 45, Matthew reviews Trattoria al Forno Restaurant at Disney’s BoardWalk, and in the game “What’s in a Name?” we test our knowledge on the titles of Disney World attractions, shops, and restaurants.

36: Top 5 Attractions in Need of Refurbishment

Refurbishment, change, an overhaul, TLC… Whatever you want to call it, some attractions need a bit of love. This week we count down the five attractions at Walt Disney World that need the most attention. We don’t want to see them go; we just want them to reach their potential.

On the subject of refurbishments, we discuss the recent changes that were made to The Great Movie Ride, including a new pre-show and a new finale montage. Also in the news, we talk about Orange Bird’s triumphant return and whether or not Tomorrowland‘s box office is to blame for Tron 3‘s demise.

In “Eating Around the World” we review Whispering Canyon Cafe at Wilderness Lodge. Plus, we share our latest Disney obsessions in “The Disney Fix.” Come join the conversation!

33: Animated Films in the Parks: The 1960s

Puppies and wizards and bears – Oh my! In continuing our series on Disney’s animated films and their presence in the parks, this week we turn our eyes to the three movies of the ’60s: 101 Dalmatians, The Sword in the Stone, and The Jungle Book. Has Disney World done these films justice? Could they stand to have a bigger presence in the parks?

In another “Eating Around the World” segment, we check out the menu and atmosphere of San Angel Inn Restaurante in the Mexico pavilion at Epcot. Plus, in “You Be the Judge” we debate the All-Star resorts, Disney’s Hollywood Studios’ name, and a new Fantasmic! scene. Join the conversation now!

28: Live-Action Disney Films: Passing Trend or Winning Model?

With Cinderella in theaters and films like The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, and Mulan on the docket, live-action remakes seem to be Disney’s latest obsession. Is it working? Is it necessary? This week we discuss the live-action remakes, both past and future, and what we think about them. We even do a bit of armchair casting and talk about who we’d like to see in the upcoming Winnie the Pooh movie.

To kick off the episode, we review Be Our Guest Restaurant and talk about a few hidden gems at the parks.

Wizards, mummies, and beer—Oh my! Butterbeer, that is. This week we report on our recent trip to that other theme park in Orlando: Universal Studios. We talk about the newest expansion, Diagon Alley, as well as the other attractions and offerings. From our Disney World perspectives, we discuss what works and what doesn’t at both Universal parks.

But first, we kick off the episode by dishing on the latest Disney news and reviewing Raglan Road in Downtown Disney. It’s another episode full of laughs, rants, and a touch of magic.
