212: 60 Years of Disney Roller Coasters

2019 marks the 60th anniversary of the very first roller coaster to open at a Disney park: the Matterhorn Bobsleds. Disneyland was open for four years before it got its first coaster, and when the mountain-themed attraction debuted, it was anything but your average, off-the-shelf ride. In fact, it was the first tubular steel coaster in the world! That attraction was the first in an iconic lineup of roller coasters that would eventually be introduced at the U.S. Disney parks, and on this week’s show we work our way chronologically through all 12 of them. Join us and special guest Courtney Guth as we discuss the impact and legacy of the Disney coasters and how we feel each one succeeds as a Disney attraction.

Also on episode 212, we review some of our recent meals at Ale & Compass, Liberty Tree Tavern, and Olivia’s Cafe. Plus, we have some fun with the hashtag #DisneyfyDisney by adding Intellectual Properties to original Walt Disney World attractions and restaurants. Come join the fun!

Be sure to find Courtney online and let her know you enjoyed hearing her on the show!

189: Fun Facts and Easter Eggs at Walt Disney World

“Did you know?” Those three words, when overheard at Walt Disney World, always pull us in. We either want to learn something new, or we want to be able to debunk whatever kind of nonsense we’re about to hear. While many Disney fans have heard just about every “fun fact” there is to know about the Vacation Kingdom of the World, some facts and hidden Easter eggs really are “fun,” especially when you discover them for the first time. For this week’s show, we’ve each compiled a list of our favorite facts and tidbits we’ve heard over the years about Walt Disney World, including details to look for, backstories of attractions, and much more.

In the segment “Behind the Magic,” we put the spotlight on the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island. Plus, Derek reviews his dinner at Maria & Enzo’s Ristorante in Disney Springs, we discuss some tough losses for WDW fans, and much more. Tune in!

Join us for another culinary tour as we read these menus and give our own takes.

In another Mad Chatter game, we try to guess the Disney movie based on the film’s dialogue at the 30-minute mark. Plus, we host another zany round of Chatter Jeopardy, in which we provide ridiculous questions to off-the-wall answers. Come join the fun!

171: IllumiNations: Reflections on 30 Years

We’ve gathered here tonight around the fire, as people of all lands have gathered for thousands and thousands of years before us, to share the light and to share a story — the story of how one nighttime show is turning 30 years old this month!

Join us as we look back at three decades of IllumiNations, the fireworks/laser/fire spectacular that takes place every night on World Showcase Lagoon. On this week’s episode, we reflect on what this show has meant to Disney fans and why the current show, Reflections of Earth, is significant. Plus, we discuss where nighttime entertainment at Epcot should go from here.

Also on show 171, we answer a few listener emails, share our Disney resolutions for 2018, and review our recent lunch at Restaurant Marrakesh. Come join the fun!
