246: Splash Mountain – The Good, the Bad, and the Satisfactual

For a certain log flume attraction in Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom, it’s time to be movin’ along. Help us say goodbye to Brer Rabbit and his briar patch as we look back at 31 years of Splash Mountain, its earliest conception, its controversial source material, its status as a Disney icon, and its future as a Princess and the Frog ride.

177: Political Incorrectness and The Walt Disney Company

Remember that time Disney came under attack for something it had produced that was considered culturally insensitive? In truth, Disney has had to address this issue many, MANY times over the last several decades. When you’ve been around for as long as The Walt Disney Company has, it’s almost inevitable that you will run into these kinds of problems as times change and people evolve.

On this week’s episode, we look back at the instances when Disney addressed issues of political incorrectness by changing or removing elements in their properties, including films like Song of the South and Fantasia, as well as attractions at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland. We also discuss examples of scenes in Disney movies and rides that are still considered by many to be insensitive, even though they remain unchanged to this day.

42: Countdown to Parkstinction – Disneyland: 1955

The 60th Anniversary Diamond Celebration is in full swing at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, so this week we take a break from our regularly scheduled Walt Disney World programming to bring you the latest news from the original Disney park. First we discuss the many exciting things Disneyland has planned for its birthday celebration, including a bedazzled castle, updated attractions, sparkly merchandise, sweepstakes, animated windows on Main Street, U.S.A., and more!

Then, we hop once again into our Time Rovers and journey to the past, this time ending up at Disneyland in its opening year: 1955. Tour the park with us as we check out opening-day attractions like Space Station X-1, Canal Boats of the World, and the pack mules in Frontierland.
