138: The Lights of Walt Disney World

At last we see the lights, and it’s like the sky is new! On this week’s show, join us for a closer look at the best lamps, light bulbs, and spotlights throughout Walt Disney World. We go park by park, “highlighting” the best lighting techniques used by Imagineers to bring that special touch of magic to our favorite parks, from the fiberoptic lights below our feet to the popcorn lights that dangle above our heads.

In the new segment “The Windows of Main Street,” we showcase the contributions of those men and women whose names adorn the windows along Main Street. This week we place the focus on Walt’s older brother Roy. Plus, we play the game “Take Five” and share our thoughts on Magic Kingdom’s new fireworks show “Happily Ever After.” All that and more awaits you on show 138!

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is turning 28 years old this week! While the park might not be its best self right now, the future is bright. And so is the past . . .

In honor of the park’s anniversary, special guest Jeff DePaoli joins us this week as we go back in time and take a virtual tour of Disney-MGM Studios as it existed in 1994, just months after Sunset Boulevard debuted to the public. We look back fondly on extinct attractions like the Backstage Studio Tour and the Magic of Disney Animation, and we discover what the park was like before Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and Star Wars made their grand entrances.

Plus, Jeff gives us the scoop on Aulani, Disney’s Hawaiian resort and spa, and shares all about the unforgettable trip he took there. Then, in the segment “Did That Just Happen?” we each share odd, funny stories from the parks.

But that doesn’t mean they are the only things worth experiencing on a Disney vacation.
